Why does the job exist?

The purpose of the position is to protect public health by evaluating and tracking public water systems in New Mexico. This position must execute any tasks required by the regulations in response to a public water systems compliance status or public health threats.

How does it get done?

-Perform complex analysis of public water system data and operations
-Serve as a Drinking Water Bureau Compliance Officer.
-Verify that assigned Public Water Systems are providing drinking water that meets all applicable quality standards.
-Review chemical and microbiological monitoring data and treatment technique monitoring data for compliance with New Mexico Drinking Water Regulations.
-Determine if each public water supply is operated and maintained in a manner that meets all requirements of the New Mexico Drinking Water Regulations.
-Complete Sanitary Surveys for assigned systems at the rate of 1 every 3 years for community water systems and critical NTNC water systems, and 1 every 5 years for non-critical NTNC and transient non-community water systems in accordance with the Quality Assurance Project Plan for Sanitary Surveys.
-Review chemical and microbiological monitoring data and treatment technique monitoring data for compliance with New Mexico Drinking Water Regulations.
-Determine if each public water supply is operated and maintained in a manner that meets all requirements of the New Mexico Drinking Water Regulations.
-Ensure that the required documentation or information is available to public water systems, the public, or other Department personnel.
-Follow State, Department, and Bureau policies and guidelines regarding code of conduct and professional standards.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:
-Safe Drinking Water Act and/or New Mexico Drinking Water Regulations
-Regulated Public Water Systems

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Physical, Natural, or Environmental Science, Soil Science, or Engineering and five (5) years of experience in public/environmental health, environmental science, Air Quality Management, Biology, Engineering, Chemistry, Geology, Hazardous Waste Management, Wildlife Management, and/or Water Resources. Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid driver¿s license. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching walking, climbing ladders and stairs, short periods in enclosed spaces, and the ability to lift to 50 pounds. Travel is required to complete mission-critical tasks. Some tasks involve working outdoors during seasonal temperature extremes and possible inclement weather. This position is required to communicate both verbally and in written form.
