Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Responsible for scheduling and coordinating surgical [specialty] patients.

RESPONSIBILITES

Monitor the patient's progress, the workup and clinical care, intervene appropriately to ensure the plan of care and services are progressing. Assist the team in ensuring that the care provided is patient focused, appropriate for the patient's needs and efficient. Work with the patient during the preoperative clearance process, making sure all relevant documentation is in order and in alignment with patient's needs, and are communicated to the team and the patients.
1. Reviews the upcoming six months of the Patient Tracker and patients' readiness for surgery related to their insurance approval process, monitors patient compliance with treatment and preparation, and supports the care team in meeting their productivity goals.
2. Counsels patients on requirements for surgery.
3. Notifies patients via letter and telephone of time, place, date, procedures for preoperative testing and surgical procedure.
4. Assist in coordinating and scheduling any education or other services patients may need.
5. Exhibits excellent customer service and telephone etiquette in all interactions.
6. Perform other duties as requested by the Surgery Chief and/or management.
7. Works with Finance and the patient to troubleshoot issues with insurance, CPT Codes, copayments, and financial clearance matters.
8. Maintains active and steady communication via telephone, email as needed to move the patient forward.
9. Work cohesively with the surgical team to ensure patients are properly scheduled and compliant with preoperative appointments as required.
l0. Ability to navigate swiftly through EPIC to collect information for the patient, insurance carrier, schedule OR cases, update CPT codes, post charges, and manage OR Snapboard.
11.Responsible for communication to the provider on the patient's clearance status or barriers in the patient clearing for the procedure.
12. Work in collaboration with other primary care, specialty services or outside facilities to obtain consults for the patient pending clearance.
13. Collects and distributes appropriate paperwork to internal and external parties to coordinate the process to get the patient to have their surgery performed.
14. Assist in resolving patient issues such as referring to other services prior to the procedure to resolve any issues.
15. Schedules or coordinates post-op short term and long term follow up visits for patients.
16. Attend and support any committee meetings as needed.
17.Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
1. A Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Work, Psychology or Rehabilitation Counseling, and three years of full-time experience in medically-oriented health care and medical support systems environment, two years of which included experience in an administrative or supervisory capacity in such occupations as physical, occupational, inhalation, speech and audiology therapy or as Medical/Laboratory Technologist, Microbiologist (various specialties), Chemist (biochemist), Radiation and X-Ray Technician or three years of responsible level experience in business management systems or general administration including two years in a supervisory or administrative capacity.
2. A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in the disciplines listed in (1), and two years of full-time experience as listed in (1), plus one year experience in an administrative or supervisory capacity in occupations as listed in (1); or,
3. A satisfactory equivalent combination of training, education and experience.
Note: Certification or licensure may be required.
