Why does the job exist?

The Data Analyst II will:
  • Evaluate program expenditures, administrative costs, healthcare access, service delivery, provider/member eligibility and enrollment, provider payments and managed care capitation rates are compliant with state and federal requirements;
  • Oversee state and federal audits to inform key decisions on changes to policy, reimbursement methodologies, claims system logic and state and federal financial reporting.


How does it get done?

The Data Analyst II is responsible for:
  • Reviewing and interpreting state and federal policy to ensure compliance of the Medicaid program;
  • Interpreting results, identifying trends and issues, and developing corrective actions to meet state and federal standards;
  • Evaluating and reviewing metrics and data across key program areas to monitor program compliance;
  • Reviewing national data sets and reports to monitor New Mexico Medicaid performance and compliance compared to other states¿ Medicaid programs;
  • Leading various workgroups in providing timely responses to CMS, auditors, and state legislature
  • Completing and presenting analysis of data and information to support management decisions of corrective actions to resolve audit findings;
  • Building and maintaining analytical tools to track audit activities across various state and federal audits;
  • Collaborating with staff who manage programs, finances, systems, and data to develop solutions when issues and risks are identified.

  • Medical Assistance Division staff and managers;
  • State and Federal agencies.


Ideal Candidate

The Ideal Candidate has:
  • Knowledge of the Medicaid program;
  • Experience overseeing and/or participating in state and/or federal audits;
  • Experience in tracking, trending, and analysis of reports;
  • Experience conducting research and analyzing complex information;
  • Experience with state and/or federal policies, procedures, and regulations.


Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Public Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or other related field with five (5) years of experience directly related to position at time of posting. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience totaling nine (9) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain valid driver's license.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), extensive personal computer and phone usage. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
