The New Mexico Department of Transportation's (NMDOT) mission is to provide a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public, while promoting economic development and preserving the environment of New Mexico. These positions are located in the Data Management Bureau within NMDOT's Planning Division.
Why does the job exist?
This position is responsible for update and maintenance of the Roadway Inventory Database and development of datasets. This data is used to satisfy Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Highway Performance Monitoring System reporting and Model Inventory Roadway Elements requirements. The Roadway Inventory Database is the official source of NMDOT's Linear Reference System (LRS).
This position collects roadway asset data per guidance documents using stored road photologs, digital files, aerial imagining and various special software applications. This position also conducts database queries, gathers and fulfills data requests and analysis (utilizing both tabular and spatial database information), and assists with other Data Management Bureau programs and projects.
How does it get done?
This position collects, cleans, maintains and analyzes data and prepares data driven reports specific to program/divisional needs. Validate analysis ensuring integrity of deliverables. Additionally, incumbent coordinates and prioritizes analytic projects and supports leadership to meet the agency's goals by conducting data needs assessments to attain actionable mission-driven results.
Who are the customers?
This job is performed for all New Mexicans to help the Department and the state meet federal traffic data collection and reporting requirements. Customers include the coordinators and managers of other Planning Division programs, as well as other areas of the Department and other federal and state agencies. Customers may also include external stakeholders such as the Metropolitan and Regional Transportation Planning Organizations and tribal and local public agencies. This position will have occasional contact with the public, external federal agencies and state officials.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience with the following:
-ArcGIS, including the Esri Roads and Highways extension.
-Microsoft Office software to produce reports and spreadsheets.
-Critical thinking including analyzing information and making recommendations.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Public Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or other related field with four (4) years of experience directly related to position at time of posting. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
General office setting with occasional travel both in-state and some out-of-state. The office setting includes use of visual/video display terminal (VDT) and extensive computer and telephone usage with possible extended periods of sitting.
