What we need YOU to do:

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to be our newest environmental specialist in the Division of Drinking and Ground Waters (DDAGW), working at our Southwest District Office in Dayton.

Let's talk about it.

As Ohio EPA's newest environmental specialist, you will serve as the lead worker for Ohio's Source Water Assessment and Protection (SWAP) and act as the technical expert for ground water quality and source water protection concerns specific to Ohio. You'll participate in agency workgroups and act as a liaison between other divisions concerning the protection of ground water quality and surface water-ground water interactions. You'll provide training for SWAP staff on technical and administrative policies, procedures, guidance, and rules pertaining to work activities.

You'll assist in the development and implementation of protective strategies to minimize ground and surface water impacts from various types of land uses and contaminant sources, participating in multi-jurisdictional Ohio EPA and regional workshops, presentations to local government, conservation districts, state and federal agencies, and professional conferences. You'll support Ohio EPA's Division of Surface Water (DSW) in Clean Water Act initiatives, including evaluation of the potential for ground water contamination, ground water-surface water interactions, and review of ground water monitoring data and reports.

Additionally, you'll coordinate ambient ground water monitoring activities throughout the region to define water quality baseline conditions, trends in water quality, pollution effects upon area aquifers, and identify potential sources of contamination. You'll perform hydrogeologic sensitivity assessments to determine pathogen sensitivity of wells in support of Ohio's Public Drinking Water Program.

• Act as liaison between other Ohio EPA divisions and external entities.

• Use hydrogeologic information to assess contamination threats to drinking water sources.

• Work with public water systems to develop and implement protective strategies.

• Conduct ground water sampling.

• Evaluate hydrogeologic information to determine sites for public drinking water wells.

• Review ground water monitoring reports and pumping tests.

• Provide technical ground water support to the Division of Surface Water.

Qualifications

-7 yrs. relevant programmatic exp.

-Or completion of undergraduate core coursework in environmentally-related discipline; 3 yrs. relevant programmatic exp.

-Or 2 yrs. relevant programmatic experience as Environmental Supervisor, 85865.

-Or combination of education in environmentally focused discipline or other job-related discipline & specific programmatic experience equaling 7 yrs.

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
