Introduction

Do you have experience with facilities maintenance and like fixing things? The Department of Military Affairs (DMA) is looking to fill multiple Facilities Maintenance Specialist- Advanced positions.

One of these positions will be based / headquartered out of Camp Williams in Juneau County and may serve the entire Area 2 county area which includes: Adams, Columbia, Juneau, Marquette, Sauk, and Wood counties. The majority of work will be at Camp Williams. The weekly schedule for this position will be Tuesday through Friday 6:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.

The other position will be based/ headquartered out of Fort McCoy/ Maneuver Area Training Equipment Site ( MATES) in Monroe County and may serve the entire Area 3 county area which includes: Buffalo, Clark, Jackson, Monroe, Pepin, Trempealeau, and Vernon counties. The majority of work will be at MATES/ Fort McCoy. The weekly schedule for this position will be Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.

Position Summary

The Facilities Maintenance Specialist- Advanced (FMS-Advanced) performs maintenance and repairs to building mechanical equipment. The positions performs basic level electrical and plumbing maintenance and repairs as well as maintenance and repair to HVAC units and controls, valves and associated equipment. The position i ndependently troubleshoots, performs diagnostic procedures and determines alternatives for repair or solves the requirement directly. The FMS- Advanced p erforms maintenance, repairs and remodeling projects to buildings structural components, grounds and pavement areas. In all activities the use and coordination of contractors may be required.

Salary Information

Starting pay is $22.78/ hr.

This position is in the 03-13 pay schedule/range. A 12-month probation will be required.

The Department of Military Affairs does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.

For current permanent state employees, pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

Job Details

This position has the following conditions of employment :
  • Must be physically able to lift and move objects in excess of 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to operate lift equipment and have no limitations for working in high areas.
  • Knowledge and adherence of safety practices utilized in the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment and general building maintenance, to include lock out/tag out. Ability to identify hazardous materials and situations. Take corrective measures when unsafe acts or conditions are observed.
  • In order to gain access to the military facilities and to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled, DMA will conduct a comprehensive background check.
  • All new permanent, project, and limited term employees will be required to report to JFHQ in Madison on the Monday of their first week of employment for the New Employee Orientation (NEO) program. Additional information will be sent to the new employees and their supervisors on the Tuesday prior to NEO.
Must possess or be eligible to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license and meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy to drive a state vehicle.

State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy:

Must have a valid driver's license

Minimum of two year's driving experience

Must be 18 years of age or older

Additionally, the driving record must not reflect the following conditions:

Three or more moving violations (with point reductions) and/or at fault accidents in the past 2 years

An OWI or DUI violation within the past 12 months

A suspension or revocation of the driver's license

Qualifications

Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for this position will have experience with most of the following:
  • Knowledge/ training in using hand and power tools.
  • Basic plumbing knowledge/ training.
  • Basic electrical knowledge/ training.
  • Basic knowledge/ training of heating and cooling systems.
  • Knowledge/experience in using snow removal and/or landscaping equipment.
