Introduction

Winnebago Mental Health Institute (WMHI) is looking to hire a part-time Facilities Maintenance Specialist - Advanced (.6 FTE). This position will typically work between the hours of 7:00am-3:00pm Wednesday through Friday, including some Mondays, Tuesdays, weekends and holidays. WMHI is a part of the Department of Health Services (DHS), Division of Care and Treatment Services (DCTS) and is a psychiatric hospital providing quality mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults.

A $2000 sign-on bonus applies to those with no prior state service in the last five years; must stay with WMHI for a minimum of one year to retain the bonus. Bonus will be split, $1,000 upon hire and $1,000 after completing probation.

Position Summary

As a Facilities Maintenance Specialist - Advanced, you would be responsible for:
  • Performing general maintenance duties for WMHI, Wisconsin Resource Center (WRC), and the Wisconsin Women's Resource Center (WWRC).
  • Performing general maintenance duties including (but not limited to) the following systems: heating, plumbing, electrical, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, minor washer and dryer repairs, and assisting other trades when needed or directed.
  • Inspecting, maintaining, installing, removing and repairing institute floors, roofs, ceilings, door and window hardware, screens, furniture, parking lots, sidewalks, playgrounds, and various building hardware and equipment.
  • Supporting the grounds department when needed.
  • Submitting monthly estimates of material needed to perform assigned tasks, keeping accurate logs, and submitting written reports as required.
You will be required to work around patients/residents and will be responsible for the security of tools and keys. You must comply with institution policies and have flexibility in scheduling to meet the institution operational needs.

Salary Information

The starting salary is $22.78 per hour, or the appointment minimum at the time of appointment, plus excellent benefits (pro-rated for hours worked). A 12-month probationary period is required.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 03/13.

Job Details

All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by the facility or medical personnel directed by the facility prior to their start date.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Applicants must have the physical ability to walk stairs, climb ladders, crawl, stoop, kneel, twist, and lift up to 80 pounds. A physical assessment may be required prior to hire.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:
  • Experience using handheld or battery-operated tools to perform basic repairs and preventative maintenance on various systems (e.g. heating, air conditioning, electrical, plumbing systems/fixtures, drain augers, etc.)
  • Experience using grounds equipment (Riding lawn mower, lawn tractors, snow blowers, snow plows, scissor and boom lifts, etc.).
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy ** to drive a state vehicle.

Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:
  • Experience removing or installing floor and ceiling tiles, ceiling track, and ductwork.
  • Experience assembling and installing (e.g. desks, furniture, shelves, bulletin boards or picture frames, etc)
  • Experience performing minor door and window repairs.

**State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy:
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Minimum of two year's driving experience.
  • Must be 18 years of age of older.
