Introduction

Winnebago Mental Health Institute (WMHI) is looking to fill a part time (0.6 FTE) Facilities Maintenance Specialist Position. This position will be scheduled for 24 hours a week. The typical schedule will be between the hours of 7:00am-3:30pm Monday through Wednesday. Additional hours may be scheduled including some Thursdays, Fridays, weekends and holidays, depending on the needs of the facility. WMHI is a part of the Department of Health Services (DHS), Division of Care and Treatment Services (DCTS) and is a psychiatric hospital providing quality mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults.

A $2,000 sign-on bonus applies to those who do not have prior state service in the last five years and must stay with WMHI in the position until completing probation. Bonus will be split, $1,000 at hire and $1,000 after completing probation.

Position Summary

As a Facilities Maintenance Specialist - Advanced, you will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Making minor repairs to all tractors, small engines, snow removal, and grounds equipment.
  • Providing preventative maintenance and servicing of battery-powered tuggers, electric carts and grounds equipment.
  • Performing general maintenance duties on heating systems, plumbing systems, electrical systems, ventilation systems, minor washer and dryer repairs, and general clinical staff requests for maintenance during scheduled weekend shifts for Winnebago Mental Health Institute (WMHI), Wisconsin Resource Center (WRC), and Wisconsin Women's Resource Center (WWRC).
  • Submitting monthly estimates of material needed to perform assigned tasks.
  • Keeping accurate logs, and submitting written reports as required.
  • Inspecting, maintaining, installing, removing and performing repairs of institute floors, ceilings, door and window hardware, screens, furniture, parking lots, sidewalks, playgrounds, and various building hardware and equipment.
  • Working around patients/inmates while responsible for the security of tools and keys.

Salary Information

The starting pay is $22.78 per hour or the minimum at the time of appointment, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 03/13.

Job Details

All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by the facility or medical personnel directed by the facility prior to their start date.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Applicants must have the physical ability to walk stairs, climb ladders, crawl, stoop, kneel, twist, and lift up to 80 pounds. A physical assessment may be required prior to hire.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:
  • Experience operating snow removal equipment, tractors, trucks, or other heavy equipment.
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance and minor repairs to plumbing equipment and systems.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance and minor repairs to the electrical equipment and systems.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy ** to drive a state vehicle.
Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:
  • Experience performing repairs on small engines, generators, gas water pumps, or vehicles (RTV's, tractors, snow removal equipment etc.).
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance on battery-powered tractors (checking brakes, batteries, steering, etc.).
  • Experience performing minor door and window repairs

**State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy:
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Minimum of two year's driving experience.
  • Must be 18 years of age of older.
Additionally, your driving record MUST NOT reflect any of the following conditions:
  • Three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two years;
  • Operating While Intoxicated (OWI)/Driving Under the Influence (DUI) citation within the past 12 months;
  • Suspension or revocation of driver's license.
