Job Description

Family Court Mental Health Services (FCMHS) is a mandated, direct-service program administered by the Central Office Division of Medical and Professional Affairs. It serves a culturally diverse population of families, youths and adults by performing a wide variety of court-ordered evaluations in child protective, delinquency, and domestic violence cases, other Family Court proceedings, and on-site emergencies. Clinics are located in all five boroughs of New York City Family Courts, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island.

FCMHS receives referrals for forensic evaluations only from the Court, via judicial order. Licensed psychologists with high-level competencies required for forensic evaluations, who can testify in court as expert witnesses, perform these evaluations. Under direction, with broad latitude for independent or minimally reviewed action or decision, FCMHS psychologists perform work of significant professional difficulty and responsibility in the field of forensic psychology. Under direction, with very broad latitude for independent action or decision, the Associate Director of Mental Health Services performs exceptionally difficult and responsible professional and/or supervisory work in the field of psychology. In addition to performing duties of the lower assignment levels at a more difficult and responsible level, performs the following tasks:

General tasks and responsibilities will include:
  • Plans, organizes and supervises psychological service programs and/or units and participates in the development of program objectives.
  • Advises on kinds of services to be rendered, areas to be emphasized, and utilization of psychological services to help meet overall program objectives.
  • Consults with administrative and/or medical staff regarding general policies, which affect psychological services.
  • Collaborates with Court personnel, including Supervising Judge and all other local judiciary.
  • Supervises the work of psychologists and psychology staff and acts as a consultant to them on problems they encounter.
  • Allocates time and number of staff to various psychological activities.
  • Coordinates and oversees clinic calendar and schedule.
  • Leads, coaches, and supervises clinic and non-clinical staff assigned to unit.
  • Conducts in-service training programs by organizing and staffing conference and seminars, drawing up curricula, and evaluating efficiency of programs.
  • Works in partnership and collaborates with the Associate Clinic Director to achieve clinical and operational goals.
  • May perform relevant clinical professional activities.


Minimum Qualifications
1. Master's Degree in Public Administration, Public Health, Health Care Specialization, Social Work, Psychology or related field; and
2. Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in hospital or regulatory agency administration, with particular emphasis on development and evaluation of mental health delivery services; or
3. Possession of a valid license and current registration to practice in a mental health field issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED).

EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:
  • Ph.D. or PsyD in Clinical Psychology

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
  • Four years of satisfactory full-time experience in Clinical Psychology/Forensic Psychology.
