The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) provides a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public while promoting economic development and preserving New Mexico's environment.

The Financial Control Division is responsible for ascertaining the legality and authorization of proposed expenditures, maintaining financial records, and ensuring the availability of adequate budgetary resources prior to the commitment of NMDOT-restricted funds.

Why does the job exist?

The position will pre-audit financial transactions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

The position will ensure accuracy, consistency, and timely audits of financial transactions while maintaining compliance of NMDOT and the Department of Finance and Administration's (DFA) rules and regulations, assuring proper posting of expenditures.

Provide guidance to NMDOT staff on financial policies and procedures as well as any additional duties assigned.

How does it get done?

The position will provide a high level of expertise in accounting, evaluation, and monitoring of vendor payments.

This position will assure NMDOT Financial Control Unit and DFA audit requirements are met upon payment approval.

This position will analyze and make correcting recommendations to the departments financial staff.

This position will perform in depth review of financial data using critical thinking skills in combination with advanced excel functions.

NMDOT internal and external customers.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have preferred experience/education in the following areas:

* Experience with Microsoft Excel,
* Experience in accounts payable,
* Experience with the Statewide Human Resources Accounting Reporting (SHARE) Financial system, and,
* Excellent customer service.

Minimum Qualification

High School diploma or Equivalency and one (1) year experience in bookkeeping, accounting and/or finance. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer to include working with computers, faxes, copiers and printers, and phone usage with extended periods of sitting, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Some travel may be required.
