Position Description
The overall responsibilities of a Plant Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor include:
  • Operate equipment and tools as needed to perform work
  • Assure preventative maintenance tasks are being completed as scheduled
  • Perform maintenance and installation on a variety of equipment, buildings and systems
  • Use manufacturers manuals, instructions, schematic diagrams, plans and sketches
  • Address unusual conditions or major maintenance needs as they arise
  • Study long-term maintenance program making plans and recommendations as needed
  • Work with overhead cranes
  • Implement cost-saving maintenance programs
  • Advanced troubleshooting in both electrical and mechanical areas
  • Work with crew members to diagnose and solve problems as they occur
  • Prepare the team for the day's activities
  • Keep crew organized and on task to meet the daily production schedule
  • Conduct effective toolbox meetings
  • Work as a team leader by encouraging and supporting maintenance team daily
  • Train new employees as needed
  • Adhere to environmental and stormwater pollution prevention policies
  • Actively lead participation in Metromont's 6S, Lean, and Safety Programs
  • Housekeeping as necessary to maintain work area, tools and equipment in a clean and orderly manner
  • Must adhere to all Metromont and OSHA safety rules and regulations

Characteristics
  • Perception and visual abilities must be good
  • Must be safety-conscious
  • Able to work independently and complete tasks with little supervision
  • Proficient pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, general and diesel mechanical skills
  • Familiar with computerized maintenance management systems
  • Knowledgeable of all equipment and plant systems
  • Able to train others in all aspects of a job-specific process
  • Effectively communicate with management the status of work
  • Utilize tools and materials in a proficient way
  • Able to maintain recordkeeping to produce operational cost data for their equipment (hours reading, fuel, fluids used etc.)
  • Able to instruct the use of sockets, wrenches, ratchets, pry-bars, hammers, tape measure,
  • Understanding of chemical safety
  • Can provide effective and documented feedback for associates
  • Advanced reading, writing, and math skills
  • Knowledge of electrical (up to 480 volts 3 phase)
  • Able to learn new equipment
  • Good communication and organizational skills
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints/plans
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel
  • Must be able to run conduit

Education and Technology
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
  • 5-10 years (at least) general maintenance experience
  • Advanced reading, writing, and math
  • 2-year trade or vocational school or equivalent
