Job Description

Provide direction for and supervise all activities of assigned trades personnel to complete preventive and corrective maintenance for building systems/equipment and other projects as assigned. Ensure the execution of work order assignments in coordination with fellow Facilities supervisors and with designated University contacts in order that all projects are completed in a timely, safe and cost effective manner. Interact routinely with building occupants on scheduled and nonscheduled activities to ensure open and effective communications. Complete the required administrative functions regarding work order flow including data entry into Facilities work order system. Coordinate procurement and delivery of material to job sites in order that avoidable work delays are prevented.

Required Qualifications

• Considerable maintenance experience as a trades mechanic along with lead or supervisory experience. Virginia Master licensure and experience in one or more of the following is required: plumbing, electrical, steamfitter, or HVAC.
• Must have a valid driver's license and will be required to operate a motor vehicle daily.
• Familiarity with building trades.
• Working knowledge of all local and state codes that pertain to areas of responsibility.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills and communication skills.
• Must have the ability to read, and understand a variety of technical documents such as blueprints, technical drawings, sketches, specification records, and operating and maintenance manuals.
• Ability to safely and frequently move and handle heavy objects weighing 50 pounds or more; ability to maneuver materials up and down stairs; ability to climb and work from elevated work stations such as ladders and scaffolds; ability to work for long periods standing, walking, reaching, bending, pushing/pulling.
• Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
• This position is designated as Emergency Personnel.
• May be required to work additional hours/shifts to meet the needs of the department.
• Must have health and safety medical check.
• Must be able to use a respirator.

Preferred Qualifications

• Maintenance experience with building systems in a large commercial or institutional setting.
• Experience in a computerized work order/inventory management system.
• Working knowledge of multiple trade-specific tasks.
