WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Consumer Product Protection Specialist will perform complex consultative and technical assistance work for the Weights and Measures program for the Agriculture and Consumer Protection (ACP) Division to facilitate the enforcement of statutory requirements and provisions to Texas agricultural entities and consumers. You will work under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Work directly with the Director for Consumer Product Protection and the program coordinator to monitor program activities and ensure compliance with requirements, laws, regulations, policies, procedures, goals, objectives, and work plans.

Collaborate with program staff in compiling and analyzing program data to determine trends and resolve technical problems.

Prepare and print program inspection cases for TDA's Legal Division.

Review and assist in the collection, organization, analysis, and/or preparation of materials in response to requests for program information including assisting with responding to Public Information Requests (PIRs).

Conduct timely and complex technical review and approval of eggs, weights and measures inspection reports and Licensed Service Company reporting to ensure they are properly submitted and documented.

Provide technical program review and processing/licensing for Weights and Measures and Egg Law programs and licensing.

Respond to technical complaints, questions and calls regarding the assigned program.

Assist in analyzing and preparing legislation for assigned programs.

Review and provide recommendations to the program coordinator in developing and maintaining training manuals and program forms for the assigned programs.

Distribute educational materials, appropriate forms and information to applicants, industry, and other government officials, as needed.

Review and assist in the preparation, tracking and completion of correspondence, cooperative agreements, Memorandum of Agreement's (MOA) and contracts.

Follow all TDA policies and procedures.

Perform other duties as assigned.



Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION

Bachelor's degree (one year work experience related to the essential duties may substitute for one year of college).

Two (2) years work experience in a technical program related to agriculture or consumer product protection.

Experience interpreting program rules and regulations.

Experience reviewing and analyzing data and preparing technical reports.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws related to the program area; of public administration and management techniques; of research techniques; of training techniques; and of program management processes and techniques.

Skill in identifying measures or indicators of program performance; in providing customer service excellence to both internal and external customers; and the use of a computer and applicable software.

Ability to gather, assemble, correlate, and analyze facts; to establish goals and objectives; to devise solutions to administrative problems; to develop, evaluate, and interpret administrative policies and procedures; to exercise sound judgment and discretion; and maintain the highest level of confidentiality.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal office work environment and may have exposure to dust and environmental allergens consistent with normal business activities and human contact. Mostly sedentary in nature but may involve walking; standing; pulling and pushing; kneeling, stooping and bending; performing tasks requiring fine motor skills and coordination; and safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds. Must be able to work extended periods at a computer and may require working extended hours and some evenings and weekends, as needed. May involve travel (10%), occasionally overnight.

TELEWORK & WORK HOURS

TDA has a telework policy that will allow eligible positions to telework up to two (2) days per week after completing six (6) months of employment with the agency. The employee must meet eligibility criteria set forth in the Telework Policy.
