Job Title: Temporary Research Assistant

This is a Temporary position limited to no more than 12-months. This position is part-time and limited to no more than an average of 30 hours a week in a twelve-month period.

Job Summary:

The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Gastroenterology, has an opening for a part-time (30 hours/week) Temporary Research Assistant to work at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora. This position will assist with investigator-initiated projects studying the immunobiology of eosinophils within the context of allergic inflammatory diseases at mucosal surfaces (i.e. gastrointestinal tract). The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team of researchers working in the lab of Dr. Julia Dunn.

The successful candidate will work closely with and report directly to Dr. Dunn, who will provide supervision to the extent and direction best suited to the candidate's experience and professional goals. The primary responsibility of this role will be immunohistochemical and immunofluorescent staining of both mouse and human specimens, for the purpose of enumerating and phenotyping eosinophils in allergic tissues. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to present research at regional conferences and to assist in the preparation of research articles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Dunn, as well as members of the Dunn Lab.
  • Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects, particularly immunohistochemical and immunofluorescent staining, microscopy, and image analysis.
  • Perform experiments, record results, evaluate results, and present data.


Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field

A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of and demonstrated competence in immunohistochemistry, fluorescence microscopy, and image analysis.
  • Background in immunology or cellular and molecular biology would be beneficial.
  • Good computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office (particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Knowledge of Prism and ImageJ also desirable.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The hiring rate for this position has been established at $18.00 / hour. The above salary rate represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate at the time of posting.
