Service Aide I

The University of Tennessee's Career Gateway is looking to fill the temporary assignment of Service Aide I with University Housing. Please note that Career Gateway temporary positions do not have benefits, annual leave, or sick leave accrual.

Pay Rate: $15.00/hour

Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00-4:00 and when needed Saturday-Sunday 7-2.

Job Length: Up to a year

The position will help maintain all University Housing facilities in a safe, clean, and sanitary condition. This is a full-time position opportunity with competitive benefits.

General Public Area Cleaning:

  • Clean public areas including but not limited to: lounges, stairwells, lobbies, hallways, recreation rooms, laundry rooms, and multi-purpose rooms.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, strip/wax hard surface flooring.
  • Perform carpet care and cleaning.
  • Dust surfaces.
  • Remove trash and recyclable material.


Restroom/Bathroom Cleaning:

  • Clean and disinfect student/residential, staff, and public bathroom/restrooms.


Miscellaneous Duties:

  • Unload supplies
  • Write up maintenance/custodial work orders.
  • Move furniture.
  • Install mattresses.
  • Wash linens.
  • Turnover guest apartments.
  • Perform special event set-up and takedown.


Exterior Grounds Keeping:

  • Pick-up and remove trash.
  • Weed flower beds.
  • Clean concrete surfaces and walks.
  • Remove snow and ice from walkways.


Minor Maintenance:

  • Perform touch-up painting.
  • Replace baseboards.
  • Repair custodial equipment.
  • Replace light bulbs.


Other Job Skills:

  • Ability to understand custodial industry standards/methods and best practices.
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and schedules.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong, positive work ethic.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms.
  • Ability to work with both a diverse customer and employee base.
  • Ability to accept directives and instructions and carry out same.
