Essential Functions

Primary receptionist/customer service liaison responsible for greeting and assisting all visitors to the Office of Financial Aid with the ability to understand student inquiries, evaluate student account status, determine appropriate recommendations and interpret recommendations in regard to financial aid policies and procedures. Assess financial needs of students and advise students and parents regarding financial aid programs and requirements. Explain processes and options in detail and communicate with students about expectations and policies. Assist students individually with various applications and forms for federal, state, and institutional aid. Process or prepare for processing all accompanying required documentation that students submit in person and digitally. Manage Financial Aid email account as the primary member of the customer service team. Evaluate all email priorities and correspond with various staff members to provide responses in a timely manner. May receive assistance to answer emails from staff members during peak times, coordinate response organization as needed. Ensure out of office information is set up on email account during times of closures, special information needed, etc. Train with all staff members to serve as an operational resource to other staff and/or students as appropriate. Provide base level information to inquiries for all programs within the Office of Financial Aid. May supervise student employees. Answering office desk phone when available. Serve on a variety of committees as requested, pending staff needs. Understand and communicate with students about the different types of appeals processes, answer questions and relay information to committees as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent with three years of related professional experience or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a related field with one year of related professional experience. Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students, work independently with minimum supervision. Experience with computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and other office equipment. Judgment is required in dealing with personal interactions and confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a college/university setting. Working knowledge of federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations. Previous experience with Student Information System software. Expanded knowledge of application process and general aid programs, federal, state, and institutional. Working knowledge of Banner system, including, but not limited to the Financial Aid module, Student module, and Finance module.
