TxDOT is looking for an Assistant Area Engineer in the San Angelo Area Office. This position will help oversee construction and maintenance activities across 7 of the San Angelo District's 15 counties. The Assistant Area Engineer will enjoy the exciting and rewarding work of shaping the State's transportation system while supporting the Area Engineer. The San Angelo District has a robust project portfolio of construction projects, from preventative maintenance and rehabilitation, through bridge replacements and Super 2 passing lanes, all the way to four lane divided and freeway conversions. Position Description
Assists in directing area office operations. Assists in managing and/or supervises employees involved in construction, design, maintenance, survey, laboratory activities and/or office operations. Reports to the Area Engineer, who has full authority for approval of all work. Responsible for the operations of the area office in the absence of the Area Engineer. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
Experience: 4 years transportation engineering. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications:
*Professional engineers licensed in another state i n the United States , but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.

Position Description

Essential Duties:
- Assists Area Engineer in projecting personnel and equipment needed for each project; as required responds for emergency situations/conditions to assist with office activities.
- Conducts pre-construction, Employee Forum and/or safety meetings.
- Inspects roads, monitors maintenance activities and coordinates scheduling of maintenance work with construction projects.
- Keeps abreast of current transportation design innovations, modifications, laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Monitors traffic control plans.
- Plans and schedules work of construction personnel and/or provides them on the job training.
- Prepares and/or recommends field changes and supplemental agreements.
- Prepares and/or reviews monthly and final estimates and final construction reports.
- Resolves public complaints.
- Reviews plans prepared by area office personnel; checks designs, specifications and estimates.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

- Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
- Licensed Prof Engineer*

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
- Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
- Standing-prolonged periods of time
- Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
