Responsibilities

The Department of Biological Science at Florida State University invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professors in Neuroscience. These positions offer the opportunity to join a dynamic and supportive community within the Department, and the broader, multidisciplinary Graduate Program in Neuroscience , Molecular Biophysics , and Cell and Molecular Biology . Our collaborative environment is designed to foster the development of an outstanding research program in neuroscience while contributing to the education and mentorship of the next generation of scientific leaders. We are particularly interested in candidates with a research focus in the following two categories:
  • Chemosensory/Systems Neuroscience with a focus on investigating chemosensory processes, ingestive behavior, neural circuitry, or gut-brain interactions in vertebrates or other model organisms. Preferred expertise in advanced techniques such as large-scale neural recording (e.g., electrophysiology, imaging), and/or behavioral assays with neural manipulation (to link neural circuits to behavior) is highly desirable. We are seeking collaborative preceptors to join our longstanding (30+ years) NIH Chemosensory Training Program .
  • Cellular/Molecular Neuroscience focusing on synaptic structure, gene regulation, stem cells, or disease mechanisms. The ideal candidate will have expertise in investigating neural circuits, glia biology, neuroimmunology, development, cellular, and/or molecular functions and utilize advanced, cutting-edge in vitro and/or in vivo techniques. We are seeking new colleagues that would complement existing specialties in epigenetics, development, drug addiction, circadian biology, and aging.


  • Qualifications

    Candidates must have a doctoral degree and postdoctoral training, and demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and mentoring, with clear potential or proven record for securing extramural funding to support an innovative research program.

    The Florida State University is a Research Intensive, Carnegie I Institute uniquely balanced in the Arts & Sciences. The College has initiated a new undergraduate degree in Neuroscience and has accelerated commitment to Chemosensory Training to include new faculty, a creative scholar-in-place internship program for postdoctoral scholars, and professional development targeted for our PhD trainees. The Department of Biological Science is an interactive group with more than 40 tenure-track faculty members with expertise in neuroscience, sensory systems, developmental genetics, epigenetics, chromosome biology, evolution, behavioral ecology, conservation biology, genomics, structural biology, and virology.

    The Department is committed to the success of our faculty with engaged mentoring and significant resources. Researchers have access to excellent and fully-staffed departmental and university research facilities that include an imaging facility with a Titan Krios electron microscope, confocal imaging, light sheet microscopy, BSL2 facilities, molecular cloning and hybridoma facilities, genomics, proteomics, metabolomics instrumentation, flow cytometry, and mass spectrometry facilities, electronics, and fabrication machine shop, and the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory.
