Job Description

Clinical Biomed Applications team is looking for a Biomedical Device Integration analyst to join our team in bringing leading-edge technology to the largest municipal health system in the United States. You will have the opportunity to work with key players in the medical device and technology landscape on the deployment, training and integration of medical devices and clinical systems across NYC Health + Hospitals.

The Biomedical Device Integration analyst will play a pivotal role in a dynamic, clinical, and technical environment by serving as the point person in the implementation of biomedical operations initiatives. Under varying levels of direction and expertise, the Biomedical analyst will plan, manage and execute medical device integration plans including physiological monitors, anesthesia, ventilators, infusion pumps, dialysis, and mobile alerting solutions. They should have knowledge of inpatient clinical workflows and use that expertise to transform their work. Specifically, collect and transform large quantities of information into meaningful clinical requirements; develop and modify required documentation for the design and implementation of clinical information systems; critically evaluate information from various sources, distinguish user needs from actual business needs, and partner with clinicians, project managers, programmers, consultants, and IT leadership in optimizing the scope, benefits, and risks of actual and proposed projects as well as managing stakeholder expectations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Analyze and document technical and clinical requirements and processes; communicate requirements to technical personnel through the construction of basic conceptual data, process models and flowcharts, and technical specifications.
  • Evaluate options and recommends the most effective strategy for meeting the biomedical system needs.
  • Convert information gathered into details including data sources, data and user types, interface components, interface navigation needs, reporting needs, and administrative system needs.
  • Define external interfaces, constraints, quality issues and other non-functional requirements.
  • Provide project management team with identified risks, concerns, and ambiguities discovered during the gathering of requirements; assist team in developing solutions.
  • Plan, organize, facilitate, and lead meetings and workgroups as well as oversee and execute follow-up activities.
  • Partner with project managers to complete requirements documentation in accordance with project schedule.
  • Provides implementation services including application documentation and training, formulation of training/implementation plans, deployment within the business and handoff to support services
  • Builds and tests a configuration that supports high availability and disaster recovery across our two data centers.
  • Provide supervision and guidance to junior clinical business analysts, clinical business analysts assigned at Level I, consultants, and/or other appropriate project team members.
  • Performs application support functions including server management, problem solving and resolution of application function defects.
  • Develop and execute project presentations.
  • Participate in special projects as required.
  • Other related duties, as required.


Minimum Qualifications
1. A Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, applied Mathematics, Business Administration, Economics/Statistics, Telecommunications, Data Communications, or a related field of study; and
2. Five (5) years of progressive, responsible experience in the field of data processing, computer systems and applications.
Operations Specialty requires supervisory experience (5 years).
Network Services requires a telecommunications background and experience.
3. Broad knowledge and expertise in the characteristics of computers, peripheral devices, communications systems and hardware capabilities, programming languages, E.D.P. applications, systems analysis methodology, data management and retrieval techniques; or
4. A satisfactory equivalent combination of training, education and experience.

Department Preferences

Certification(S)/NYS Licenses:
  • Certification or Proficiency in Epic Inpatient Clinical Documentation or OpTime, 2 years' experience with Epic EMR and/or other clinical applications, and/or clinical background strongly preferred, however we are willing to train the selected candidate. Epic Certification or Proficiency is required within the first 6 months of appointment to continue employment.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and other Requirements:
  • Epic EMR clinical and/or technical
  • Good knowledge of computer and communications hardware capabilities and utilization
  • Clinical applications
  • HL7 protocols
  • Experience implementing clinical systems

Years of Experience:
  • Two to five years of experience serving as lead in internally and externally developed software in a clinical information technology, information services, business analytics or related area.
