The Hispanic Education Act (2010) and Black Education Act (2021) are focused on improving the educational success and postsecondary attainment for Hispanic and Black students and families. The purpose of both acts is to provide for the study, development, and implementation of educational systems that positively impact student and family educational outcomes while working to close the achievement gap; increase graduation rates; increase post-secondary enrollment, retention, and completion; foster family engagement, and provide mechanisms for state and local community stakeholders to collaborate to increase educational opportunities.
Why does the job exist?
To provide clerical support for the Hispanic Education and Black Education Liaisons and budgetary oversight of the Hispanic Education and Black Education Acts. The Hispanic and Black Education Acts are focused on supporting districts and charter schools with how to better serve Hispanic and Black students and their families.
How does it get done?
Collaborate with the Hispanic and Black Education Liaisons and other staff which includes but is not limited to: Providing timely and relevant customer service, technical assistance, and support to districts across the state. This position also performs clerical functions such as preparing correspondence, receiving visitors, arranging conference calls, scheduling meetings, supporting travel requests, routing documents for signature, supporting Hispanic and Black Education Acts fiscal management, and coordinating to ensure adequate office supplies and functioning technology.

Secretary of Education, Deputy Cabinet Secretaries, Hispanic and Black Education Liaison, Superintendents, Tribes, District Administrators of Hispanic and Black Education, School Administrators, Teachers and Students and their Families.
Ideal Candidate
Ideal candidate has knowledge and/or experience in: providing high-quality customer service and support; providing technical assistance and support; fiscal management of funding; and scheduling meetings and effective calendar management.
Minimum Qualification
High School diploma or Equivalency and two (2) years of experience in office administration, budgeting, purchasing, finance, accounting, auditing, cash management and/or contract management. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Education Experience 1 High School Diploma or Equivalent AND 2 years of experience 2 Associate's degree or higher (Bachelor's, Master's) AND 0 years of experience
• Education and years of experience must be related to the purpose of the position.
• If Minimum Qualification requires a specific number of "semester hours" in a field (e.g. 6 semester hours in Accounting), applicants MUST have those semester hours in order to meet the minimum qualifications. No substitutions apply for semester hours.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico's Driver's License.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to video visual display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required. Travel is required for meetings, conferences, on-site technical assistance and focused monitoring visits.
