Posting Details

District Five is one of six districts of the New Mexico Department of Transportation. The boundaries of District Five include the following counties: Torrance, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Taos, and San Juan. Employees in the District are responsible for providing the Maintenance, Construction, Engineering Support, and Business support measures of the Department to ensure the safety of the public as well as efficient highways.

This position is in Santa Fe and will be within the District Five Complex /Safety Section.

Why does the job exist?

The purpose of the position is to assist with the District Five Safety and Loss Control programs to ensure the safety of employees and the traveling public.

How does it get done?

Incumbent will evaluate and analyze work environments, assist with designing programs and conducting safety trainings, eliminating and preventing injuries, and assist in conducting facility inspections. Incumbent will Enforce adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals. And lastly incumbent will comply with Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) and other federal and state regulations and standards, reviews and prepares written reports. Will conduct investigations of accidents and injuries as needed.

Minimum Qualification

High School Diploma or Equivalent and two (2) years of experience in a risk management or a related field (e.g., loss control, safety and Worker's Compensation case management activities and workplace inspections.) Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Employment requires successful completion of post offer pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results. Business/personal reference check and Driver's license verification are also required, and employment is conditional pending results. Must become a certified instructor with the National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course and First Aid/CPR after hire.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting and outdoors. Office work includes working with computers, faxes, copiers and printers. Subject to call-out for accidents and/or emergencies on short notice. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to outside work in varying weather conditions-hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow; exposure to sunlight, dust, and environmental allergens; exposure to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles; high speed/high volume traffic, loud noises, and stressful situations. Interaction with the public, local, county, and city officials by phone or in person. Frequent travel utilizing state vehicle within District. Occasional travel with possible overnight stays away from post of duty. May be required to work irregular hours.
