Job Description

Supervises a

Supervises a section/unit of the Laboratory. Responsible for performing and assessing laboratory tests on specimens for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in a timely manner. Ensures compliance with all regulatory standards for the section/unit of the Laboratory. Demonstrates knowledge of the organization's Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of Duties.

Responsibilities
1. Supervises technical staff and provides support to the lab section COQ holder.
2. Preparation of laboratory area, equipment, reagents, and instruments for testing.
3. Prepares specimens to be tested; Performs manual and automated test as needed.
4. Analyzes, interprets, reports, and verifies test results.
5. Monitors testing equipment, solutions, and work environment by following laboratory Quality Control procedures, ensuring the overall reliability of test results.
6. Oversite of inventory management activities.
7. Efficiency in adapting to changes in order to facilitate adequate staffing and effective demonstration in identifying and acting on priorities in a timely manner.
8. Trains new and current employees.
9. Ensures adherence to and maintains on of the follow areas: safety procedures and technical manuals.
10. Participates in in-services, continuing education courses, and assist in developing new procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of six (6) years of pertinent laboratory leadership experience of which not less than two (2) years have been spent working in the designated laboratory specialty in a clinical laboratory having a director at the doctoral level
  • Education and experience equivalent to the guidelines mandated by CAP, CLIA, and NYSDOH requirements.

• Be licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist by New York State Department of Education, Office of the Professions.
  • Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology from a program registered by the NYS Department of Education or Bachelor's degree in the major of biology, chemistry or physical sciences from an accredited college or university

• Knowledgeable in Quality Control, Quality Assurance procedures, and Laboratory Automation
  • Effective oral, written, communication and interpersonal skills.
