The Department of Corrections is currently recruiting to fill a Financial Specialist- Advanced position. This position can be headquartered at the Department of Corrections central office in Madison, WI or at the Badger State Logistics office in Waupun, WI.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for facilitating the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions of the Department of Correction's Bureau of Correctional Enterprises (BCE). This position will assist the Financial Program Supervisor in assigning transactions to be processed by other Financial Specialists and to review all transactions for compliance with delegated pre-audit rules. The position is responsible for communication between DOC staff, BCE Financial Services, BCE customers, suppliers, and staff at BCE farms, shops, and warehouses to resolve discrepancies arising from the incumbent's approval, disapproval or pre-audit of financial transactions. This position also assists in the costing of BCE products. This position assists the a ccountant in preparation of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)-based schedules, fiscal reports and financial statements and assists in the preparation of annual and biennial budgets.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule and range 02-15 with a starting pay of $29.58/hour.

Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period of one year is required.

Job Details

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

Shift: Monday-Friday 7:45am-4:30PM with up to 3 days/week for telecommuting.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have experience:

  • Performing accounting practices and procedures, completing fiscal audits and reconciliations, and creating reports
  • Analyzing and/or evaluating financial data to inform business decisions or process improvements
  • Leading, guiding, or coaching other staff (e.g. training, advising, reviewing work, problem solving, etc.)
  • Utilizing Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, etc.) or similar software applications
