The Department of Fire Services (DFS) is recruiting to fill the position of Fire Officer Instructional Assistant Program Coordinator. This is a part-time, contract position with no benefits

Description of Duties
  • Responsible for providing supervision of multiple classes at all MFA campuses and throughout the Commonwealth
  • Reviews and summarizes student evaluations
  • Conducts program review for Fire Officer group and becomes involved in re-development of existing programs and development of new programs
  • Prepares new equipment and/or replacement equipment lists annually and submits to Program Coordinator
  • Works closely with Support branch of DFS to ensure proper equipment and media are delivered to training sites
  • Develops new instructors through coaching, mentoring, teaching, and guiding
  • Observes instructors and provides guidance in program delivery
  • Actively participates in coordinator meetings
  • Researches, evaluates, and prepares recommendations on curricula, instructional methods, and materials for the program
  • Develops tests, questionnaires, and procedures to measure effectiveness of curriculum and to determine if program objectives are met
  • Recommends purchase of instructional materials, supplies, equipment, and visual aids to meet the needs of the program
  • Works with staff in assessment, curriculum development, management of student behavior, and use of materials and equipment
  • Observes, evaluates, and recommends changes in work of instructional staff to strengthen teaching skills in classroom
  • Plans, conducts, and evaluates training programs and other learning opportunities for instructors to study new classroom procedures, instructional materials, and teaching aids
  • Reviews and grades written test scores and skill sheets and counsels students when necessary
  • Prepares subjective evaluations on students for outstanding performance and non-acceptable performance and counsels the student and notifies the Chief of the Department
  • May be assigned additional projects by MFA management
  • Hosts NFA courses related to program division as needed to audit for internal instruction of state-sponsored deliveries
  • Actively participates in simulation (SIM) software trainings
  • Actively participates in curriculum development and virtual delivery platform trainings
  • Responsible for creating simulations for use in training programs
  • As needed, assists the Coordinator in reviewing training applications submitted for credential credit


Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must have a minimum of three years of relevant fire service or emergency service industry experience such as a fire officer, fire investigator, training officer, or fire prevention position
  • Must be an instructor within a training program for a minimum of five years
  • Must have completed Fire Instructor II course and been promoted to Fire Instructor II with the MFA or a minimum of three years of equivalent experience of instructional curriculum development and course delivery

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Fire Instructor II certification
  • Superior interpersonal skills
  • Able to use Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Well organized and a team player
  • Have a demonstrated work record to support the skills required
  • Have a thorough knowledge of the program that is being coordinated
  • Be a Fire Officer of a Fire Department
  • Be trained or certified to Fire Officer 2
