Under limited direction of the Chair, the Laboratory Research Technician (1) assists in the construction, startup, and maintenance of the undergraduate and faculty research laboratories to ensure the projects are on time and within budget; (2) ensures the effective maintenance, security and operation of the laboratories, in a safe and environmentally sound manner, and within budget; and (3) establishes and maintains a coordinating role between the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering and Facilities Management.
  • Independent worker with strong time management, organizational, and communications skills
  • Knowledgeable about component selection and integration, operations and maintenance of research lab instruments such as gas chromatographs, mass flow controllers, HPLC, FTIR, UV/VIS and mass spectrometers, chemical reactor systems, along with life sciences instrumentation and processes including ultracentrifugation, bioreactor design and operations, protein and peptide synthesis and purification, and best practices with lab instrument piping, tube bending and tube fitting selection
  • Assertive safety leadership experience in job hazard analysis, hazard review of chemical reactors, and organizing laboratory safety inspections and inspection follow-up
  • B.S. in science or engineering
  • One year of directly-related work experience
  • Engineering M.S. is preferred, with experience in design/build prototyping for R&D applications using modular design principles
