Job Summary Department Purpose

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Library Supervisor 2, responsible for purchasing more complex library materials in all formats, requiring advanced bibliographic skills and decision-making ability. Makes extensive use of multiple vendor databases in performing increasingly automated acquisitions routines. Assures that expectations for timeliness and quality assurance are met in handling material. Ensures that effective communication is maintained with Collection Strategies, subject librarians, other library staff and vendors. Receives and processes shipments, and enters invoices in integrated library system and forwards to Library Financial Services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Lift books weighing up to 10 pounds, lift and unpack boxed materials weighing up to 25 pounds; maneuver loaded book trucks weighing approximately 150 pounds.
  • Read small print on request slips and computer screens, read and interpret handwritten and annotated requests; operate keyboard equipment. Sit for extended periods of time. Reach shelves from 5" to 82" high.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Work at computer for extended periods of time (6-8 hours per day); Maintain a work schedule during core business hours; Limited vacation usage during peak workload periods; Some flexibility to work a hybrid onsite/remote schedule based on operational needs.
  • No eating or drinking in the work area. Work in close proximity to others, with frequent interaction and interruptions; frequent movement within the department and to and from other departments/areas.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:
  • Experience using a bibliographic or similar resource database for retrieving, interpreting, and editing records appropriately. Experience performing detailed tasks with sustained concentration.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
  • Knowledge of library procedures and technical services operations, with demonstrated emphasis in monographs or serials, or both.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact and communicate with a group of people from diverse backgrounds in a variety of media (video conferencing, chat, email, telephone or in person). Skills to work as part of a team.
  • Math/accounting skills to evaluate invoices for correct billing amount and to perform basic computations.
  • Skills to independently exercise good judgment and make decisions within established guidelines. Skills to independently organize tasks and establish priorities to meet workload requirements and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills to resolve routine and non-routine problems.
  • Skills to learn unit workflow and adapt to changing procedures and priorities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:
  • Experience working with the acquisitions module of an integrated library system, preferably Ex Libris's Alma.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
  • Skills with spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of common non-English languages, sufficient to verify and process titles using the Roman alphabet.
  • Knowledge of electronic and print bibliographic tools used in English and common non-English languages.
