The Wisconsin DNR is hiring an LTE (Limited Term Employee) - Communications Specialist Advanced (Wisconsin Natural Resources Magazine Brand Manager) position at our Central Office, in Madison, WI.

This position is expected to work about 15 hours per week.

Position Summary

This position will collaborate with DNR Office of Communications staff to design the quarterly Wisconsin Natural Resources magazine. This position will be responsible for all aspects of magazine design including conceptualization, text and page layout, typeface and color selection and photo editing. The position will generate print-ready files for the printer and maintain an archive of all design files. The position will serve as a point of contact for technical issues with the contracted printer.

50% Support external communications for Wisconsin Natural Resources magazine, working with staff to develop materials and concept visual branding including social media and promotions for the DNR's quarterly magazine. Design and project manage the production of promotions, event materials, experiential marketing initiatives and more in coordination with OC staff, leadership and the Communications Director. Assist in the organization and project management of photoshoots as needed. Review communications plans and recommend visuals to elevate the brand.

40% Design and produce the visuals for the quarterly Wisconsin Natural Resources magazine. Conduct pre-press preparation and quality assurance of files and images, staying current with print process best practices. Manage relationship with printing vendor to ensure high-quality print publication.

10% Manage magazine brand assets such as logos, photography, illustrations, design templates, and brand documentation. Perform final design and layout of materials, including color schemes, typefaces, camera-ready artwork, etc. Assist with the management and maintenance of in-house digital asset management system.

Salary Information

This position pays $26.87 per hour and is in pay schedule and range 07-03. Compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

Job Details

This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and will not automatically lead to permanent state employment or be entitled to the same benefits as permanent employees.

1) Residency: To be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.

A Wisconsin resident is a person who:

a. Has established a residence, as defined in s. 6.10(1), in this state not less than 10 days earlier;

b. Has resided in this state for not less than a total of one year out of the immediately preceding 5 years;

c. Is eligible to register to vote in this state; or

d. Is the spouse of a person meeting the requirements of par. (a), (b), or (c)." s.230.03(12), Wis. Stats.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will have:
  • Ability to provide a strong portfolio of work that demonstrates strength in print and digital graphic design.
  • Skill in graphic design, which may be demonstrated by prior work or educational experience in graphic design or a related field.
  • Skill in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.
  • Skill in graphic design and production demonstrated by experience in a wide variety of marketing projects, including magazine/publication layout.
  • Ability to be detail-oriented and able to work on deadline on multiple tasks at any one time.

Well qualified candidates will have:
  • An earned bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field.
