Job Description:

Southwest Virginia Community College is a public, open access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System, offering a Career Studies Certificate in Pharmacy Technician at its off-campus location, the Lebanon Center. The mission of the Southwest Pharmacy Technician Program is to prepare students to assist and support licensed pharmacists in providing healthcare and medications to patients. Upon completion of the curriculum, students will be eligible to take the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination. Southwest Virginia Community College is seeking a motivated and self-directed individual for the position of Administrative Assistant to support the Pharmacy Technician Program in the Health Technologies Division.

This position will:
  • provide detailed information to students, staff, and the public regarding pharmacy technician program policies and procedures;
  • work with students and other internal and external customers to assess and meet their needs;
  • provide proficient and direct customer service, both face-to-face and virtual, in a high-paced office environment;
  • maintain, retrieve, and purge confidential student and faculty records;
  • scan and link files in the document imaging system;
  • make updates in the Student Information System (including advisor assignments and curriculum changes);
  • inventory and maintain office storage and supplies; and
  • create and update databases and other recordkeeping systems in support of ASHP/ACPE accreditation approval activities (including graduate surveys, degree progress sheets, employer surveys, graduation verification), records of national pass rates, ChPT licensure certification to institutional research, technical assistance for production of ASHP/ACPE annual reports;
  • stay up to date with changes to Southwest Virginia Community College Pharmacy Technician Program curriculum;
  • facilitate Department and student interface for criminal background checks, health screenings, etc.;
  • coordinate textbook ordering, review, testing;
  • assist the Administrative Assistant of Health Technologies with duties as assigned;
  • assist with planning and conducting Pinning Ceremony, including program;
  • assist with maintaining student handbook and adjunct faculty handbook;
  • assist with college catalog revisions;
  • assist with all meetings, including faculty meetings, advisory committee meetings, adjunct faculty meetings;
  • assist with orientations for students, full-time and part-time faculty;
  • record meeting minutes for all department meetings;
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience providing direct customer service in a high-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to assist the public in a courteous and helpful manner
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaborate with administrators, faculty, and staff
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
  • Experience using Microsoft Suite
  • Knowledge of state and federal policies, to include FERPA
  • Knowledge of college policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated skills in the use of contemporary computer application software, to include word processing and spreadsheets, and other information technology applications such as those that manage college student information data
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Pharmacy Technician Certificate
  • Experience working in higher education
