Job Summary

The Division of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine at the Michigan Medicine conducts research in a variety of studies associated with aging and health. Our research projects include federally-funded multicenter trials and smaller, more focused studies of older adults in the community and older patients hospitalized at the University of Michigan Hospital.

We are seeking a highly motivated, well organized, and detail-oriented person who has experience working with older adults, particularly experience with older hospitalized patients. This person will also have experience in use of medical records and data capture systems. The person will work closely with study leads and associated study teams to carry out all study related tasks from eligibility screening, consenting, data collection and instrument scoring, and data entry. Also included in these tasks will be monitoring protocol adherence and working with the study team to refine study processes. After completion of study-specific training, the candidate will function in a semi-independent manner with emphasis on regular communication with all members of the study team.

Responsibilities*
  • Conduct study enrollment tasks: eligibility screening, participant consents, related baseline assessments, and scoring of instruments
  • Conduct other types of data collection in-person or via telephone calls as needed
  • Document all relevant data used in multiple research studies
  • Enter multiple types of data into a secure electronic data capture systems
  • Create relevant data files adhering to principles of data security
  • Monitor and report to study team effectiveness of data capture processes
  • Utilize medical record information for eligibility screening and verification of other study-related data
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree in a health science discipline or related experience in health research
  • 1-3 related experience
  • Demonstrated experience interacting with older adults from diverse backgrounds with varying levels of physical and cognitive function
  • Computer proficiency (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite, RedCap)
  • Highly motivated with excellent multi-tasking ability and record-keeping skills
  • Outstanding organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work with diverse teams of people in a collaborative and effective manner
  • Ability to problem-solve and establish priorities

Desired Qualifications*
  • Research experience in health-related fields
  • Experience working with hospitalized older adults
  • Demonstrated understanding of Good Clinical Practice and HIPAA
  • A working knowledge of medical terminology and experience using MiChart
  • PEERRS or CITI Program certified
  • Knowledge of Michigan Medicine policies and procedures

Modes of Work

Additional Information

This is a term-limited, half-time position, with most duties conducted on the Michigan Medicine Campus. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.

Background Screening
