Responsibilities*

The Kresge Hearing Research Institute is seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong interest in research. The Corfas laboratory studies the molecular and cellular basis of neuronal development, function and disease using state of the art techniques. Successful candidate will be responsible for operation of Dr. Corfas' lab and management of a mouse colony with several genetically modified lines. This includes performing PCRs and other tests on animals. Helps develop, design, and conduct research projects according to plan. Participates in formulating research methods and suggesting options for improving quality and recommending solutions. Participates in computer database design and utilization and research/data analysis and suggests future improvements in data measurement. Trains users in equipment operation and laboratory techniques, explains and demonstrates technology and equipment capabilities, operations limitations, and outcomes. Works independently on collection of data and analyzes research results. Prepares reports and drafts manuscripts. Has oversight for day-to-day operation of laboratory. Schedules and maintains records of equipment/facility. May supervise research support personnel.

Required Qualifications*
  • BA/BS in neuroscience, psychology, biology, or related field
  • Prior laboratory experience.
  • Experience in handling of mice, managing mouse colony.
  • Familiarity with laboratory maintenance and organization.
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques such as PCR, quantitative PCR, cloning. Western blotting experience.
  • Ability to work independently and to manage multiple research projects simultaneously.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with others in a collaborative environment.

Desired Qualifications*
  • BA/BS degree in cell/molecular or MA degree
  • Experience and knowledge on tissue culture, and histological staining.
  • Confocal microscopy imaging
  • Cryosectioning and immunostaining
