Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager, High Performance Computing, the Sr. Research Applications Systems Analyst works as a member of the Research Computing Services (RCS) team to coordinate and run CUIT's high performance computing (HPC) services and development projects. The Sr. Research Systems Analyst is responsible to act as liaison for faculty, other research staff and graduate students needing advice on research application uses and approaches.
Responsibilities
- Administers the HPC scheduling software layer, implements user requirements along with ongoing improvements and modifications to CUIT HPC services with other RCS staff.
- SLURM Scheduler user consulting, job configuration, tuning, troubleshooting, etc.
- Software installation, configuration, troubleshooting requests from researchers.
- Takes initiative to understand the intricacies of the HPC scheduler and how resources are managed by the scheduler.
- Identifies and consults with HPC team members and other CUIT technical resources to provide solutions, as needed.
- Manages access to HPC clusters.
- Participates in HPC development initiatives to improve CUIT HPC services by researching new technologies and approaches, and bridging regional and national resources when appropriate.
- Takes initiative to provide solutions for researchers by analyzing requirements, designing, developing, and implementing latest technologies and applications related to HPC.
- Ensures that contributions comply with architectural and security standards.
- Performs independent and complex functional and technical analysis for supporting initiatives.
- May participate in the installation and management of configuration, monitoring, and notification tools, as well as basic network administration in order to assist the users.
- Acts as a consultant for faculty, other research staff and graduate students needing advice on research application use and approaches.
- Educate and promote HPC services, options, and best practices.
- Works closely with HPC Systems Engineers on day-to-day activities for knowledge sharing, coverage, and coordination of activities.
- Collaborate with researchers to optimize scientific and research applications for HPC environments, ensuring efficient utilization of resources.
- Weekend and off-hour work may be necessary on occasion.
- All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required.
- Minimum 4-6 years' related experience.
- Linux/Unix systems administration and scripting experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
- Demonstrated excellence in a variety of competencies including teamwork/collaboration, analytical thinking, communication and influencing skills, and technical expertise.
- Ability to work with changing priorities and with multiple projects.
- Ability to be precise and attentive to detail is essential.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work weekend and off-hour work on occasion, as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of high-performance computing concepts, technologies and widely-used research
application software. - Knowledge of SLURM scheduling software.
