The Florida State University College of Applied Studies, housed at the FSU Panama City campus, has recently established a new, innovative undergraduate program in Financial Planning (FP). We are seeking two new faculty members to join the department and take part in the growth and enhancements of this inventive program. The FSU FP program is a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Financial Planning offered online and in-person. This program was uniquely designed to ensure students gain a strong foundation of knowledge and applied skills to be successful in the Financial Planning profession. First, as a CFP ® Board Registered Program, the curriculum includes all courses necessary to sit for the Certified Financial Planner™ exam upon graduation, as well as additional, focused FP courses that further expand financial planning concepts. Second, the FSU FP program embeds specialized electives across multiple academic areas, such as: Entrepreneurship, Communication, Marketing, Leadership, Technology, and Psychology, to further ensure students learn applied skills for success in financial planning. The FSU Financial Planning program is the newest undergraduate degree in the FSU College of Applied Studies, and it aligns well with the college's mission to embed essential skills for career success within academic courses and curricula.

Responsibilities

  • Teach online and in-person courses in the Financial Planning program as assigned and based on qualifications,
  • Maintain a high standard of teaching and instruction,
  • Provide mentorship to students,
  • Assist or oversee new developments and/or program outreach for the FP program. We anticipate each faculty position to have unique leadership or administrative service responsibilities to the program, depending upon experience.
  • Be an essential team member to the FP program and supporter of student success,
  • Engage in teaching innovations and oversight of student projects,
  • Participate in service to the Program, College, and Campus, and
  • Assist with development of partnerships and internships.
  • This position has opportunities for engagement in research, though it is not a required component of these teaching faculty positions.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must have a Ph.D. or other doctorate degree with a specialization in Financial Planning (or related field) from an accredited institution, or a doctorate degree in addition to a Master's Degree specializing in Financial Planning from an accredited institution. Candidates who are ABD will be considered, and degree conferral should occur by the start date of the position.
  • Previous experience teaching at the university level, demonstration of excellent communication and interpersonal skills, applied experience and/or expertise specific to Financial Planning, and a strong commitment to student success.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong academic leadership or other faculty administrative experience with interests and abilities to serve as a program leader.
  • CFP® designation or are a CFP® candidate with strong skills in teaching and mentorship.
  • A breadth of teaching and financial planning experiences and who can teach an array of course topics, such as: Introduction to/Advanced Financial Planning, Retirement, Estate, Insurance Planning, Consumer Economics, Psychology of Financial Planning, and/or Ethics and Professional Standards.
  • Professional or entrepreneurial experience in applied or university settings.

We are actively seeking applicants who can help lead this new program and be a part of an innovative team of faculty invested in training successful financial planners. These 2 positions are being advertised as open rank, 9- or 12-month, full-time, specialized teaching faculty positions. These teaching faculty positions have opportunities for promotion and multi-year contracts. Faculty salaries will be competitive, and the rank of the appointment will depend on level of experience and qualifications. These positions will begin in Summer or Fall 2025, with the ability to start sooner (Spring 2025) if circumstances allow.
