BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY

Performs advanced (senior-level) construction, restoration, renovation, and maintenance work. Work involves building repair, renovation, restoration, and alteration for the designated trade skill. May train, lead, assign, and/or prioritize the work of others. This position reports to Maintenance Manager and works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

WORK SCHEDULE: Tuesday-Friday, 10 hours a day, 40 hours a week

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates, schedules, or oversees building repair, renovation, or restoration projects.
  • Coordinates workshop operations to fabricate specialized items needed for project work or to refinish or renovate furniture, doors, and paneling.
  • Performs repairs and renovations to modernize a building or adapt it to new uses while retaining original appearance.
  • Performs welding, brazing, or soldering operations to reconstruct or fabricate metal work.
  • Examines and interprets drawings, diagrams, and blueprints.
  • Examines structures, evaluates work to be performed, selects best methods of performing maintenance and repair work, and inspects finished projects to ensure work meets building regulations.
  • Requisitions materials and equipment, maintains records of materials used, calculates material and labor costs, and orders parts and supplies to complete work orders.
  • Designs, assembles, installs, repairs, and maintains modular furniture.
  • Operates and maintains motorized vehicles and equipment.
  • May inspect maintenance work performed by contractors to ensure contract compliance.
  • Maintains records on work orders or projects in online database.
  • May be required to input time worked for other employees.
  • May train, lead, assign, and/or prioritize the work of others.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
  • Attends relevant training to maintain the essential functions of the position.
  • Attends work regularly and observes approved work hours in accordance with agency state employee policies & procedures handbook.
  • May be required to perform duty in support of national emergencies, disasters, and other missions, to include holidays and weekends.




Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent (GED) is required.


PREFERRED EDUCATION

  • Vocational or special training in any of the trades such as Electrical, HVAC, Structures, or Plumbing.


EXPERIENCE:

  • Four years' experience in construction, maintenance, or repair work.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (such as Outlook, Word, or Excel) is required.


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Work in multiple trades disciplines such as Electrical, HVAC, Structures, or Plumbing is preferred.


REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE

  • Valid driver's license is required. *If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident. A satisfactory driving record is required for operating state or personal vehicles to conduct agency


OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Selected candidate must pass federal security background investigation. The process includes a National Agency Check and Inquiry (NACI) and fingerprinting. New employees must complete and sign the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Form SF85. Completed forms are submitted to the OPM for the background investigations.
  • The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires all new employees to present proof of eligibility to work in the United States within three (3) days of being hired. The Texas Military Department participates in E-Verify and will provide the Social Security Administration (SSA) and, if necessary, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), with information from each new employee's Form I-9 to confirm work authorization.

PHYSICAL/WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in a variety of settings, such as outdoor settings which may be hot, humid, dirty, cold, and in direct sunlight. Position will require incumbent to work in areas that are high off the ground and/or in tight spaces. Work typically involves stooping, bending, crawling, lifting, climbing, kneeling, standing, walking, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, reaching, and crouching. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up equipment and materials that weigh up to 50 pounds. Indoor settings which may require extended periods of sitting and working on a computer.
