Job Description

Purpose:

Under supervision, with some latitude for independent judgment, performs supervisory of moderately complex clerical duties and performs the duties consistent with HHC Clerical Level III at a higher level, including but not limited to the following typical tasks.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
• Plans, assigns, and reviews the work of subordinates and is generally responsible for the satisfactory completion of the work performed in the department or group.
• Performs moderately difficult and responsible clerical work in maintaining and checking various kinds of work and records.
• Ensures that all appropriate procedures in death cases are carried out accurately and timely.
• Process Patients' Admissions, Transfers and Discharges.
• Accepts and releases vouchered personal property for patients as needed. (e.g., cash, keys, jewelry, telephone, credit cards, miscellaneous papers, etc.)
• Answer telephone inquiries.
• Issuing Patient Passes and Directing Visitors as needed.
• Calling Nursing Units for Doctors, Nurses, Patient Locations, and other related information.
• Demonstrates knowledge of policies and procedures.
• Attends in-services, training, and departmental meetings.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient and hospital records; uses discretion when discussing
patient and hospital matters.
• Address patients, visitors, and co-workers professionally, courteously, and respectfully.
• Answer informational requests with courtesy, accuracy, and respect for confidentiality.
• Follows corporate and hospital regulations, policies and procedures.
• Presents appropriate appearance in accordance with the HHC Code of Conduct.
• Conforms to established time and leave regulations and policies; provides proper notification for absences and tardiness.
• Performs job duties in a safe manner.
• Recognizes safety hazards and initiates appropriate action to eliminate hazards and prevent recurrences.
• Follows disaster protocols and demonstrates awareness of responsibility during disasters.
• Follows fire prevention policies and demonstrates awareness of responsibility during fires.
• Follows established infection control protocols.

Minimum Qualifications
1. A four-year High School Diploma or its educational equivalent and one year of
satisfactory clerical experience.

Skills Requirement:
Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per
minute.

Department Preferences
• Types a minimum of 100 keystrokes or 20 words per minute.
• EPIC data entry.
• PTAR, Zoll, M.A.S.
• Minimum math calculations.
• Ability to prepare death certification via Electronic Vital Events Registration System (eVITAL).
• Ability to communicate with Senior Leadership of the Hospital in addition to the Medical Examiner, Physicians, Nursing, and Hospital Support Staff as needed.
