Job Description:

UF Advancement is hiring 3 Student Assistants to work with the Special Events & Engagement team. This opportunity is a great for students who are looking to learn about the event management field and acquire great on the job skills. Training will include but not limited to, use of event management software, customer service and communication skills and the overall daily processes that go in to maintaining and running one of the University of Florida's most sought-after meeting facilities. With the quantity and diversity of clientele of Emerson Alumni Hall, student assistants will have a multitude of opportunities to network and build their resumes.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Special Events Student Assistant supports the Special Events & Engagement team and reports directly to the Interim Assistant Director of Facilities Events. Student Assistants are responsible for the set up and strike of events at Emerson Alumni Hall, including physical set up and moving of all tables, chairs, and other equipment, audio/visual set up and operation, and working with clients in the building.

Student Assistants will also support the Special Events & Engagement team with clerical duties, errands, and managing on-site operations of Emerson Alumni Hall's events on a daily basis. Candidates must be detail oriented and have excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as basic computer skills.

WORK SCHEDULES

The student's work schedule varies from week to week based on event needs and may include Saturday shifts. The Student Assistant will receive their work schedule on a bi-weekly basis. Any special requests for time off should be made in writing at least two weeks prior to the date needed.

Expected Salary:

$13.00 per hour

Minimum Requirements:
  • This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS) and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Previous experience in event management, specifically in setup/teardown of events
  • Audio visual equipment experience
  • Knowledgeable in Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Internet browsers, E-mail
