Master's degree in horticulture sciences, turfgrass science, or related discipline.

Position Summary

This Public Service Faculty position is responsible for administering the Center for Urban Agriculture's training programs in urban agriculture, including managing landscape and horticulture certification programs, by providing educational opportunities to a wide variety of audiences utilizing multiple teaching methods. This includes, but is not limited to, organizing, coordinating, and evaluating training workshops and programs for various phases of certification testing, development and implementation of training and testing methods and materials for certification programs, managing communication regarding registration/payments/details, and facilitation of direct program marketing and promotion of certification programs. A valid driver's license for official duty travel is required. The position will also work with County Extension professionals, industry clientele, and youth groups to provide resources and trainings in the areas of ornamental horticulture and urban agriculture.

Additional Requirements

Three or more years of experience working in the field of horticulture sciences or turfgrass field with an understanding of outreach programming and development

Achievement of the rank of Public Service Assistant (or equivalent) or have a documented record of achievement that qualifies the candidate for placement in the public service faculty track.

Duties/Responsibilities

Provides vision, direction, coordination, and overall leadership to the urban agriculture certification and training programs. This position will organize, coordinate, and evaluate all testing opportunities and training workshops and programs designed to prepare participants for various phases of certification testing. This also includes providing continuing education workshops and programs for certified individuals and working with appropriate faculty and staff to ensure dissemination of training materials to all individuals and clientele. This will include management of registration and recertification fees from participants as well as maintaining accurate and reliable records of participant certifications and recertifications. This position will work to develop and write the training curriculum and testing materials as well as develop training videos and visuals. This position will work with a variety of residents including Center for Urban Agriculture staff, County Extension professionals, and industry and stakeholder groups. The position engages in scholarship as a public service faculty member and contributes to the body of knowledge for the field of horticulture science and industry workforce development and training.

Duties/Responsibilities

Provides materials, resources, trainings, and communications to industry clientele and County Agricultural Agents in the areas of ornamental horticulture and urban agriculture. This includes serving as a presenter and exhibitor on behalf of UGA Extension at industry education events and engagements and participating in statewide, regional, and national travel to promote and serve as an ambassador of the urban agriculture certification and training programs. The position will also work with youth groups including 4-H and FFA programs in areas including ornamental horticulture and junior certification programs.

Provides direct program marketing for urban agriculture certification and training programs which includes marketing and promotional materials, educational materials, and through Center for Urban Agriculture social media platforms and website.

This includes collaborating on workforce development, research, and Extension projects and participating in development and formulation of writing and grant projects, publications, and program promotional materials.
