•Processes Virginia and/or Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) responses received electronically through the Consolidated Applicant Tracking System (CATS).
•Conducts inquiries based on Federal FBI responses which indicates a record exists and forwards the Computerized Criminal History (CCH) printouts to the requesting agency or to the Dissemination Desk when screening for Barrier Crimes is mandated.
•Processes electronic and hard copy notifications to agencies when identified possible criminal history records have been eliminated through fingerprint comparison.
•Opens/reviews incoming mail for completeness, and accuracy pursuant to established procedures.
•Sorts and distributes mail in accordance with policy and procedure.
•Returns any forms with missing or inaccurate information in accordance with policy and procedure.
•Responds to telephone and electronic inquiries from the public, Non-Criminal Justice Interface (NCJI) users, criminal and noncriminal justice agencies, attorneys and employers, on obtaining criminal history records by providing the current regulations and statues on obtained criminal history records.
•Works on special tasks/projects assigned by the supervisor and/or manager.
Minimum Qualifications
•Working knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
•Skill in using a personal computer and Microsoft Office applications, and keyboarding.
•Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgement and apply prescribed policies, procedures; to follow written and verbal instructions, and pay close attention to details; to research and analyze information and make logical decisions based on policies, procedures, and laws associated with criminal history checks; to work independently and as part of a team; and to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English.
•Graduation from high school or equivalent.
•Supervisory experience required.
•Must be eligible to become Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certified, which requires either United States (U.S.) citizenship or having been a lawful permanent resident of the U.S. and eligible for naturalization.
Additional Considerations
•Some experience working in a criminal justice environment dealing with confidential information preferred.
