Job Summary

The Department of Learning Health Sciences at the University of Michigan Medical School seeks an enthusiastic and organized individual to join our growing research team. The Design Science Research Area Specialist Associate will collaborate closely with the principal investigator, collaborators, and other team members to support user-centered design intervention research and education. This role involves contributing to the development of dissemination materials and other research-related tasks related to project operations. The position is part of a grant-funded project sponsored by Michigan Medicine, focusing on co-designing, developing, and evaluating innovative interventions to enhance provider engagement in surgical safety processes and advance Learning Health Systems research.

Responsibilities*
  • Facilitate various user-centered design research activities, including needs assessments, trainings, co-design workshops, and usability tests with end-users to inform the final design of interventions/strategies
  • Attend Stakeholder Working Group meetings and external Learning Community meetings, collaborating with study participants, and assisting in preparing agendas, slides, reports, and educational materials
  • Attend regular project progress meetings and provide updates to the team/principal investigator
  • Assist in the preparation of visually appealing digital and physical resources for disseminating process and outcome findings, for presentations at local and national meetings, and/or for display on a lab website
  • Perform additional research duties as assigned
  • Opportunity for independent projects if desired

Required Qualifications*
  • Master's degree in an art/design field (e.g., Interaction Design, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, User Experience Design) or a related field such as Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, or Behavioral Science.
  • Experience with data visualization and graphic software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage time effectively, organize multiple project tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Competency with Microsoft Suite and G Suite
  • Ability to work independently within a team of researchers
  • Strong computer skills and eagerness to learn and train in new software

Desired Qualifications*
  • Advanced degree (Master?s or equivalent) in a related field with a focus on design research, service design, or healthcare innovation.
  • Previous experience in end-to-end design and deployment of engaging products or interventions for social impact.

Modes of Work

Background Screening
