In this position, you will supervise a team of engineers and support staff to prepare a wide variety of construction contracts for advertisement, award, and execution. Tasks include reviewing engineering drawings and contract specifications for biddability and constructability, developing and maintaining guide specifications, scheduling and conducting site inspection trips, and responding to bidder inquiries.

Department of Water Resources (DWR) was established in 1956 by the California State Legislature. We manage California's water resources, systems, and infrastructure, including the State Water Project, in a responsible sustainable way.

Special Requirements

The incumbent may be requested to travel via air or vehicle on short notice, including overnight lodging, and perform duties at a job-site location. Must possess Class C driver's license to operate vehicles on public roadways.

Applicants must be willing to work irregular and extended hours during outages or emergencies.

The ideal candidate will have design and construction experience in a variety of engineering disciplines; experience with the construction bidding process; familiarity with specification standards and the Public Contract Code/State Contract Act; supervisory or coaching/leadership experience; excellent communication and interpersonal skills dealing with internal and external stakeholders; a proven track record of managing multiples tasks and projects while meeting tight time frames; the mindset to champion quality and continuous improvement; and collaborative solution-oriented problem-solving skills. Our ideal candidate will also have experience with a wide variety of software, including for scheduling, computer-aided design (CAD) and the Microsoft Office suite.
