Summary
  • Position Summary
    • This position is designed for someone interested in joining the research team within the Liaw Lab at the MaineHealth Institute for Research, Scarborough, ME. Research in the Liaw Lab is focused primarily on cardiometabolic health and disease, and understanding how blood vessels and adipose tissue interact. Our laboratory also leads our institutional Mouse Genome Modification Core Facility. The Research Associate I will have responsibilities in cell and molecular biology experimentation for ongoing research projects within the lab and also our core facility. Experience in mammalian cell culture, tissue processing, and protein detection is preferred, and an ability to learn new techniques is required. They will share general laboratory operational support duties with other lab members. We are seeking a highly motivated, organized, and efficient individual with experience in designing and executing rigorous experiments, data analysis and visualization, and writing of scientific manuscripts. An educational background in biochemistry, cellular, or molecular biology is preferred. A successful Research Associate I will conduct a variety of complex laboratory procedures and will be able to conduct independent research in consultation with the Principal Investigator and laboratory staff. This Research Associate I will have a sufficient level of experience, expertise and independence to conduct a defined research project with overall responsibility for its inception, implementation and completion with reporting of results in scientific meetings and in a peer-reviewed forum.

      This position is a fully onsite role at our Scarborough, ME research facility.
  • Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
    • Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Master's degree preferred.
    • License/Certifications: N/A
    • Experience: 2 + years of relevant experience with Master's degree, 3+ years with Bachelor's degree.
    • Demonstrated ability above that of a Research Assistant III.
    • Communication skills that are sufficiently developed that the individual at this level will be able to present research results at regional and national research conferences.
    • Visual acuity, manual dexterity, math skills and a scientific acumen are required.
