Why does the job exist?
This position will ensure proper settlement, posting and reconciliation of equity and fixed income securities transactions as well as alternative investment (private equity, real asset & opportunistic credit) transactions. This position will also complete administrative duties as assigned.
How does it get done?
The incumbent will apply knowledge of economics, finance and accounting principles and practices, the equity and fixed-income markets, alternative investment vehicles (private equity, real asset & opportunistic credit), banking, and the analysis and reporting of accounting and financial data.
Who are the customers?
Chief Investment Officer, Deputy Chief Investment Officers, Investment Portfolio Managers, Chief Financial Officer, and external counter parties.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate would have experience in the following:
- An understanding of investment accounting.
- Experience with the Bloomberg Terminal such that queries of securities can be made, interpreted and applied as needed.
- Understanding of alternative investments such as private equity, real estate, opportunistic credit, etc.
- Understanding of publicly traded securities such as equities and fixed income.
- Experience with investment accounting systems such as QED (Broadridge) and Private i (Burgiss).
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration and five (5) years of directly related experience in budgeting, accounting and/or auditing. For use at the State Investment Council Only: any budgeting, accounting and/or auditing experience is acceptable. Substitutions apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Some occasional travel is required for meetings and conferences.
