TELEWORK
This position offers an opportunity for a hybrid work schedule with a minimum 2-day work in office in Austin, Texas.

CURRENT TCEQ EMPLOYEES
This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Engineer I - V state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Engineer I - V series.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Engineer I will play a key role in achieving TCEQ's mission. You would use your skills and experience to:
- Conduct detailed engineering inspection and/or evaluations of existing dams to determine safety; prepare reports and recommendations to owners and engineers. Develop letters with appropriate recommendations for corrections and interact with owners and their engineers to complete engineering assessments of dams.
- Conduct and oversee inspections of dams under construction and/or modification to determine if construction meets the approved plans and engineering practices. Develop letters and propose appropriate recommendations for correction
- Complete routine hydrologic, hydraulic, and structural studies as needed, for proposed and existing dams. Prepare reports of recommendations and findings; develop letters and propose appropriate recommendations for correction.
- Review and evaluate engineering reports submitted by dam owners and engineers.
- Review and evaluate emergency action plans for compliance with statutes, rules, and engineering standards
- Respond to requests for information regarding dam safety from management, the legislature, and the public. Prepare correspondence regarding engineering issues involving dam safety.
- Participate in public education program and provide technical assistance and public outreach to dam owners, engineering consultants, other stakeholders, and the public
- Assist in maintaining the Texas Inventory of Dams database files.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Texas Professional Engineer's license.
