Join TCEQ's General Law division! We are looking for a Contracts Attorney I to join our Contracts Team.

YOUR FUTURE TEAM

As part of TCEQ's Office of Legal Services, you would apply your legal expertise to advise agency management and staff on contract, grant, procurement and other areas of law. This position is with the General Law Division. See details about what we do.

TELEWORK

This position offers an opportunity for a hybrid work schedule with a minimum 2-day work in office.

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING...

  • Review and drafts contracts, grants, and other procurement documents.
  • Provide sound legal advice and opinions on procurements and grants throughout the contract lifecycle (i.e., development, management, and closeout) in accordance with state and federal law and regulations.
  • Represent the Executive Director in procurement-related negotiations and disputes, including protests and contract-related claims. Participate in litigation regarding breach of contract, including developing claims and coordinating with the Office of the Attorney General.
  • Participate in assigned projects, such as training and presentations; developing policies, rules, procedures, templates, and forms; and tracking, reviewing, analyzing and implementing legislation.




Qualifications:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Admission to the State Bar of Texas.


Note: Applicants who sat for the July 2024 Texas Bar Exam may be considered and may commence employment in a non-Attorney position while awaiting exam results.

This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Attorney I:II:III:IIIB state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Attorney I,II:III:IIIB series.
