This position is a member of our Water Quality Division.

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING...

  • Review and evaluate complex permit applications and prepare complex TCEQ or TPDES draft individual or general permits or authorizations in accordance with state and federal rules, policies, and guidelines for all application types. Perform engineering calculations and analysis during permit application review.
  • Respond to comments on assigned permit applications and revise permits and other documents as needed. Prepare formal response to comments on draft permits in coordination with agency's Environmental Law Division and revise permits and related documents as necessary. Review related documents and develop permits with consideration of good engineering practices.
  • Communicate information concerning permits and the permitting process to agency staff, agency management, the public, and the regulated community. Attend meetings and respond to telephone calls and letters received by the program.
  • Attend public hearings, participate in resolving contested permit applications, and provide expert testimony before an Administrative Law Judge or the Commission. Assist in coaching and/or mentoring technical staff in the development of technical and expert testimony.




Qualifications:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Engineer I

Texas Professional Engineer's license.

Engineer II

Texas Professional Engineer's license plus one year of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure. *Qualifying work experience includes that obtained post licensure as an engineering graduate student or teacher.

OR

One year of full-time experience at TCEQ as an Engineer I.

Engineer III

Texas Professional Engineer's license plus two years of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure. *Qualifying work experience includes that obtained post licensure as an engineering graduate student or teacher.

OR

One year of full-time experience at TCEQ as an Engineer II.

Engineer IV

Texas Professional Engineer's license plus three years of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure. *Qualifying work experience includes that obtained post licensure as an engineering graduate student or teacher.

OR

One year of full-time experience at TCEQ as an Engineer III.

Engineer V

Texas Professional Engineer's license plus four years of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure. *Qualifying work experience includes that obtained post licensure as an engineering graduate student or teacher.

OR

One year of full-time experience at TCEQ as an Engineer IV.

CURRENT TCEQ EMPLOYEES

This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Engineer I-V state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Engineer I-V series.
