The National Hispanic Cultural Center is a division of the state of New Mexico's Department of Cultural Affairs. The mission of the NHCC is to preserve, promote, and advance understanding of Hispanic arts, culture, and humanities. The NHCC has an Art Museum, three theatres in the Performing Arts Center, Education program, and History & Literary Arts program.

Why does the job exist?

The purpose of this job is to develop and facilitate new interdisciplinary education programs and support existing education programs at the NHCC.

How does it get done?

1. Develop, coordinate, and implement education programs and curriculum that support the NHCC's Art Museum, Hispanic Foodways, and other program areas.
2. Facilitate creative, interactive, mission-aligned programs for visitors of all ages and backgrounds that encourage dialogue and hands-on learning.
3. Support school tours in the National Hispanic Cultural Center's Art Museum and Torreon using inquiry-based, interactive pedagogy.
4. Assist with administrative tasks related to program calendars, attendance tracking, budgets, and supply management.

Who are the customers?

This position serves visitors of all ages in the NHCC's local community of Barelas, greater Albuquerque, the State of New Mexico, and on a national basis in alignment with the mission of the NHCC by advancing, preserving, and promoting understanding of Hispanic arts, culture, and humanities.

Ideal Candidate

1. Three or more years developing and implementing museum or cultural programs for all ages.
2. Proficiency of 5 or more years' experience in an arts discipline.
3. Bachelor's degree in an arts discipline, education, art history, or related field.
4. Knowledge of Hispanic arts, culture, and/or humanities.
5. Knowledge of best practices in museum and/or art education, cultural foodways education, interdisciplinary informal arts learning, and inquiry-based pedagogy

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or University and two (2) years of experience in teaching and working with lesson planning and curriculum design. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

• If Minimum Qualification requires a specific number of "semester hours" in a field (e.g. 6 semester hours in Accounting), applicants MUST have those semester hours in order to meet the minimum qualifications. No substitutions apply for semester hours.

Employment Requirements

Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.

Working Conditions

Office setting, exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. reach and manipulate simple tools such as scissors and paint brushes and stand or walk for extended periods of time. Some travel within the state may be required.
