Why does the job exist?
The Bureau Chief position oversees the adoption of the national elevator codes and standards and implementing the New Mexico Elevator Safety Code for the elevator safety program.
How does it get done?
The Elevator Bureau Chief will manage the elevator inspection program for New Mexico. This position will supervise elevator inspectors and administrative position. They will be responsible for amending and adopting national and state codes as necessary to provide safe and code compliant elevator/conveyance installations. The Bureau Chief will work in conjunction with the division director and provide monthly reports as requested as well as, oversee the technical development of the elevator licensing requirements, elevator safety inspections and complaint investigations as needed.

Ideal Candidate
Ideal candidate would have the highest degree of integrity and professionalism, have extensive experience in elevator inspections and have a strong technical background in elevator maintenance, repair, and safety regulations. They should also possess the ability to read plans, blueprints, engineering reports and specifications, and to interpret and work from them. The ideal candidate would also be bilingual (English/Spanish). Position is located in Albuquerque.
Minimum Qualification
A Bachelor's Degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and eight (8) years of professional level experience with a light strategic impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below. A hiring agency will designate a portion of the required experience to include management, supervisory and/or specialized experience. Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.

Employment Requirements
Must be able to pass a background check and maintain a valid driver's license.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office and field setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Must be able to crawl, bend and lift up to 50lbs. Travel throughout New Mexico may be required. This position will interact with the public on a daily bases.
